Didn't Have a Good VIBE...

The year was 2002, still getting on and off the cheese bus, and steady mowing the neighbor's yard to earn a little cash. With EBONY, Jet, and Essence being the only magazine the moms subscribed to, it was a quick trip to the mall to get my monthly dose of VIBE Magazine. A steady read in every issue. An inspiration to Phresh Mentality. The rawness of the articles, the creativity of the layouts, and the undying interaction with the readers; principles that PM is based.

The media & entertainment community will puts our lighters up for you.

Below is a letter to the VIBE team from a former CEO.

"Dear VIBE Team,

It is with a heavy heart that I share some tough news, VMG is closing down effective today, June 30th.

It’s been an 16 incredible years since VIBE’s inception. There are very few magazines with the richness of history and breadth of talented visionaries who created the powerful lens in which VIBE viewed and shaped urban music and culture.
Ever since I first set foot in this courageous company, I’ve regarded myself as incredibly fortunate to be be involved with this remarkable brand and group of individuals whose performance has never been nothing short of outstanding. We finished 2008 in an improved position versus the prior year, and accomplished so much, including:
* Editorial Awards
* Editorial transformation into content dept
* New Ad accounts being broken
* The Most Mag Launch
* Award winning re-design
* Profitable digital operation
* VIBE.com growth and improvements and programs such as Best Rapper Ever, #1 Stan, etc
* Mobile VIBE launch
* Micro-site development Mostmag.com to start off.
* V Sessions
* Improved PR coverage

Unfortunately, over the last several months, a confluence of events has obviously posed VMG to exceedingly serious challenges.

The collapse of the capital markets has impacted us greatly. Over the past several months, we have actively pursued investment resources while working intensively with our bank to find a solution. But the deal market right now remains very poor and at the end of the day, the lack of investment resources to restructure the huge debt on our small company has made this outcome become a reality.

The print advertising collapse hit VIBE hard, especially as key ad categories like automotive and fashion, which represented the bulk of our top 10 advertisers, have stopped advertising or gone out of business. It’s also unfortunate that in a recession many companies reduce the multi-cultural campaigns. These facts, coupled with the continuing decline of the music industry not to mention the newsstand wholesaler consolidation in early 2009 all negatively impacted our business in a significant way.

The relentless economic situation has depressed our growth initiatives on the digital front. To be clear, VMG has made significant improvement in this part of our business, but not at the accelerated pace required to offset the devastating effects of the most severe recession in our lifetime and the accompanying print losses.
I want to thank you all for your hard work and commitment, and for all of the adventures along the way. I’ll miss this place a lot, but I’ll miss you all and the magic you create. Vibe will be remembered as a shockingly brilliant content company that everyone can be proud of and I look forward with great excitement to all of future endeavors you all pursue.

PHRESH MENTALITY: When did your interest in music begin.

Mr. Boyd: It started with Miles Davis and Michael Jackson. They were just so cool with it that it made music visual for me, and I'm a visual artist first. Of course, I'm a fan of all the production Quincy Jones did.

PHRESH MENTALITY: Another musical mastermind. What type of label are u currently under?

Mr. Boyd: Fedoralime AMFC, it's my own label. It's also the company I do creative consulting and production for other artist under. The idea is to blur the line art made for commerce and art that is actually made with some sense of reflection of where society is as a whole. That is what I've always gotten from the visual artist I studied as a child. Like Warhol, Vangogh, and Basquiat.

PM: A concept that most labels are forgetting now to embody.

MB: Yeah that always happens when money gets involved.

PM: Exactly. We lose sight, which is quite unfortunate.

MB: People start to forget that there are people on the other side of those dollars and that every dollar has a heart and a soul that needs to be touched. It can be overwhelming to a large company which is why I think smaller labels are doing so much better now.

MB: My plan is to use my first album as a way to let people know that I don't really care what the industry thinks. I really care what you NEED, and together we can change the industry. The industry is only ineterested in your dollars anyway. So start puting your money where your heart is and this will all be fine.

PM: Why do you think it is so hard for artist to maintain their dedication to the art after signing to the industry?

MB: Honestly. I think a lot of industry execs don't study what's behind the numbers like they used to. They don't study culture nor do they understand what really motivates people. They start to tell artists that their music is about industry and not people. How could it not be about the people?

MB: Most artist in particular black artist choose this profession without many other viable options. I truly think there will never be another Stevie Wonder, because as genius as he was, a Stevie Wonder today has options and he might choose another profession instead of subjecting himself to today's industry and play music as a hobbie or be an independent artist.

PM: Because there's so much foolishness that goes along with trying to be a talented mainstream artist that being independent might just be the only way.

MB: and their are so many genius independent artists out there who don't care about the industry, and are willing to do it the hard way. When it all comes down to making real fans, you gotta do it 1 by 1. It's a hard pill to swallow, but that's what it is.

PM: how do you feel the independent/indie community has evolved over the past 5-years, for your personal career included?

MB: a large label marketing partner is a GREAT THING, but only if the artist understands who they are first. Today's independent artists are tomorrows mainstream artists now. They create the textures we'll be using in pop music next year and because of the internet over the last 5 years or so, people and consumers what that texture underneath pop music at a quicker rate. It's kinda like how high fashion trickles down to mainstream once larger retailers can figure out how to apply a mass marketing campaign to something that most will think is new and untested

PM: Perfect example, 'Devils Wears Prada' anyone? It all has to begin somewhere. Exactly, it flows bottom - up.

MB: Independent artist over the last for years have been forced to take on the responsibility of moving the sound of music forward. Now we all can hear where Timbaland pulls his ideas from. Before the internet we had no access to artist doing pop music in Sweden, or remote parts of Japan.

PM: How big of a roll has the internet played for you?

MB: A big role. It's like the world in a box. I don't really think I can put it into a quantifiable statment.

PM: Enough said... What genres of music would say u combine?

MB: On the first album, 'Godwomanblue,' it was mainly soul music based: gospel, R&B, jazz, blues, hip hop, latin and a little rock. The newer stuff I'm releasing later this year brings out a bit more of the rock and hip hop.

PM: What inspired the visuals for the album?

MB: Actually the concept came from the bible studies I used to have with my grandmother growing up. She passed when I was in high school because she refused to get treament for an illness that went against her spiritual beliefs. I missed her and cried my eyes out, but it taught me that a life without faith isn't worth anything at all. So based this album on the idea that we are (especially women) for each other the greatest spiritual teachers we could ever have.

PM: and that's a thought process we all must learn and I hope people gain that from your music.

MB: How can we not see this? are we so blinded by theatrics and fancy mega churches that we can't look at each other and realize something divine.

PM: At the same token, that's when the VISUAL aspect becomes the BLINDING factor.

MB: I hope people get that from the album. But if they dont this next album will start to make it clearer as I'll begin by using the language found in popular culture more. Most people are so afriad of being uncomfortable that anything new is subject to scrutiny until someone famous approves it. In a culture motivated by fear and the lack of intellectual pursuit, sometimes you have to start with a concept that is very abstract and slowly make in very clear to get people to understand that it was the same concept you presented in the beginning-- just in another language.

PM: What was your favorite song on the album?

MB: At What Cost. After I wrote that song or rather it came out of me I knew I had to take my music more seriously. My favorite line to reference in hard times is "I'm dead broke when I'm amazing and I spend foolishly when I'm given gold."

PM: When I say I have listened to that song religiously since I found your website. Its something serious. And don't we all relate oh so well to that; a timeless tale. Do you ever play any covers?

MB: Yeah. I've been rehearsing some Eric Clapton songs, even Keyshia Cole believe it or not and some Marvin Gaye.

PM: I'd like to hear that.

MB: It's hard for me to do covers of songs I really love, because I don't want to mess them up.

PM: Describe your music making process.

MB: I love Kanye West and Coldplay's stuff and I make that more obvious on some of the newer material. I usually think of a cool lyric or two and then I start to visualize and scene where this line is taking place. that leads to a concept and story and from that comes the words and the musical textures. I think its appropriate to get people to feel something like what I'm seeing in my head.

PM: Do you write by yourself?

MB: for the most part by myself simply because most of my friends schedules don't match up but lately since I've released the album, more people are open to siting down with me and writing. I like working together rather than alone. I have some really cool music I'm producing for some new acts coming out soon that will be really fun!!!

PM: Do you have any upcoming events or performances coming up this year that we should know about?

MB: I'm gonna do showcase at a producers conference in the Fall, but other than that nothing until I can build some buzz and spread the word enough to make sure people actually show up at my shows.

PM: I understand, well we def want to help in building this buzz. Where can soon-to-be fans find your music.

MB: It is very much appreciated. I know it takes time, but in the end it will be worth it TRUST ME. I'll be doing a lot of local promotions this summer at some events in NYC so that should help. By going to www.myspace.com/mrboydmusic, that is the main gateway to it all.

Diary of a Mad MUSIC Woman

UNWILLINGLY, I ADMIT THAT THUS FAR OUR READERS HAVE GIVEN US AN earful of feedback: good, bad, and indifferent. We have really been working to work all the kinks out and really focus on making each issue better than the last, while making sure each reader achieves the ultimate satisfaction with each article. [Now was not that a Fortune 500 mission statement?!] We received an email, of course--anonymous, from a reader. For recognition purposes, we named this mystery writer Mrs. Sutphin. She left quite a treat for the staff. The following is an excerpt from Mrs. Sutphin's message:

"Dear Phresh Mentality Blogazine,

First and foremost I would like to commend you for your efforts to raise awareness about music. Often times people feel that they are reinventing the wheel or being "creative" just because of a catchy gimmick, logo, or emblem that they can brainwash into people's minds. I feel sometimes that teams, not saying that you all are one of them, but teams are not really out to promote what they say they are promoting. Their main purpose being self-recognition and popularity. Like a battle between Coco-Cola and Pepsi, its an endless competition for the limelight. Who cares what your name brand is, its not about that, its about the music! It iss about giving people a taste of variety, whether it be hip hop, electronica, experimental, etc. Let the music be heard, not the overbearing flashy icons directing me back to your homepage. ITS SIMPLY RIDICULOUS! And another thing, you should put an article up about how indie music is slowly going to become the new mainstream music. In other words, the idea of underground coming above ground is becoming more of a reality. People love to hear what they do not normally hear.Music that is derived from concoctions of everything, and not sounds pressed and smashed through synthesizers all these voice changing devices. If you a singer...sing. LOOORDD! All this to say, stay true what seems to be your purpose. Your blogazine is different and I am really looking forward to what you have planned next.

I got my check and I cashed it, I payed a bill and it vanished...

Reminiscent of the 90's when rappers talked on situations that were true to life. On matters that affected them and the communities around them. Preaching on being jobless, wondering how ends were going to meet, and ways to handle the never ending feelings of uncertainty. Darren Anthony raps on these realities, in which many can relate to. Going through those periods of time where it seemed as though you had a "DONT HIRE ME" sign tattooed on your forehead. Refreshingly, his mixtape is not drowned with club beats (the kind that make you forget about what the artist saying), but ones that make you want to bust out a freestyle on the corner of 30th and Washington Ave. Darren Anthony's mixtape,'The Restaurant.' offers an easy listening vibe. Experimenting with his vocals by singing on tracks like 'The Restaurant' and 'Too Long' adds another bullet on his resume as an artist. Three words to describe the mixtape: motivational, honest, and thorough. Just when we thought Bow Wow had disgraced Ohio, Cleveland native, Darren Anthony, is making a buzz across the indie scene. He just recently signed a deal with Midwest indie label, Mathaus Entertainment. A man who does not let his management do all the work, "DA" is grinding it out to promote his career and get his mixtape in more people's hands. A mixtape, thankfully, that is not focused on a fantasy world of making that "DOLLA DOLLA BILL YALL," but tracks about the realities of life. So the hunt continues, the search for the blog that turns head, and presents information, pictures, scandal, or even useless information for your everyday life. Last issue we featured two blogging "labels" that have stepped above and kept a current account on popular culture and fashion. As we have said before, presentation is everything. I never have been a dedicated blogger. Quite frankly, it is a job in itself, especially for those that update everyday and sometimes even more than once a day. Let's just say I couldn't drink enough Red Bull to do so. BUT THANKFULLY there are people who can and gladly do.

Phresh Mentality's very own, Mario Monroe, Fashion Editor, hosts a blogsite entitled, Leopard Milkshake, in which he showcases the many facets of the fashion world. From capturing a quick fashion-do on the street with his blackberry to posting the newest update to John Galliano's collection. You can find Mario Monroe's blog at leopardmilkshake.blogspot.com. Recieving an A+ for presentation, Leopard Milkshake provides something abstract and futuristic for the eye. Just the setup alone makes you want to keep clicking. Each excerpt is short and sweet, so you do not have to worry about reading a page of information: a picture, clever title and an occasional smarmy remark to follow. Kudos to LMS!

Born and raised in the Bronx,Curtis Bryant, Moose Hunters blogger-in-chief, recognizes the importance of inspiration. I can admit when i first went to his blog I thought, "What the heck does a moose hunt have to do anything?!" I just assumed it was a random title, like most blogs today, BUT I was mistaken. "Moose: is a play on the word Muse meaning inspiration. We as people are always on a constant search for things to inspire us." Simply genius. Who doesn't love a good pun every now and then. Although it doesn't overpower you with graphics galore and banners draped across every pixel of the page, the information provided keeps you scrolling. With interviews from the creative youth of our time, PM recommends Moose-Hunters.

City Of Ink: 40 Miles Ahead

"TAT-TAT-TATTED UP!" Everytime that song came on in the club, there we all were, pulling up our shirts, rolling up those sleeves, and point to the designs that adorned out flesh. Dropping cash left and right just to have a unique tattoo that embodies your personality and who you are. From tattoos in places that can be viewed by the world like an art exhibit covering 80% of your body to the simplest music no bigger than a penny, people get tattoos for so many reasons.

Many can remember in the early late 90's into the millenium, you were cool simply for getting a tattoo, no matter what it was. The females getting those fresh butterflies, stars, hawaiin flowers, or chinese characters in preparation for the summer. At the pools and beaches showing off the newest addition to the body art collection. People have grown tired of the ordinary, the generic ideas predesigned for tattoos. In 2009, the top five tattoos were as follows: 1.Stars 2.Tribal 3.Strength 4.Crosses 5.Wings 6.Butterflies 7.Love 8.Crowns 9.Dragon 10.Phoenix.

Fortunately, the world is in luck. 323 Walker St.,Atlanta, GA is the home to one of the nation's finest tattoo shops, City of Ink. Eva Pigford from America's Next Top Model, Nivea, Young Joc, Latoya Luckett, Young Jeezy are just a few of the people that have come through for a tattoo.

Tattoos can be costly at times, even for the littlest of designs. Maybe your budget will not allow you to get a tattoo that you invisioned. In Obama We Trust
A man with a mission to unite the States and the world.

At the start of President Barack Obama's term, citizens continued to focus on President Barack Obama's high levels of popularity paralleling with high levels of public confidence in the work of this administration. However, by the looks of recent polls regarding the Obama administration, the American people are beginning to express dramatically significant doubts about his initiatives. Many Americans are in support of a different agenda policies from those that the Obama administration have pushed forward.

According to The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll 53% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President's performance so far. That’s his lowest level of overall approval to date. Forty-six percent (46%) now disapprove.

Oh ye little faith-- Have we forgotten the task that was given to our President? Have we failed ourselves as Americans in supporting our leader in his decisions? We are quick to cry for a new leader, but even quicker to crucify him. President Obama is handling the many matters appropriately for the best interest of our country and its people. Let us remind you of his words, that were so eloquently spoken on January 20, 2009.

"That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age. Homes have been lost, jobs shed, businesses shuttered. Our health care is too costly, our schools fail too many -- and each day brings further evidence that the ways we use energy strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet.

These are the indicators of crisis, subject to data and statistics. Less measurable, but no less profound, is a sapping of confidence across our land; a nagging fear that America's decline is inevitable, that the next generation must lower its sights.

Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this America: They will be met. "

After making a bite to eat for dinner, London and Jazzy settled down to discuss her career and some of the issues surrounding it. Not only is she a beautiful young woman, her warming personality is quite contagious.

PHRESHMentality: 2009 is halfway complete, can we expect a follow album or EP to come soon since your last release 'Oh Jazzy' in 2OO6?

Jazzy: There will most likely be no album..possibly a mixtape, within the next couple of months. But I'm working towards trying to get a major situation. I love what I've done independently, but I'm looking towards a label right now.

PM: After being an independent for some time, what have been some of the many lessons you've learned about the industry?

Jazzy: In all actuality I've had really good people in my corner, so I haven't had any bad experiences-- I'm thankful for that. I've learned the work it takes, because doing an album took alot, we ended up putting together a really good body of work, but I understand the work it takes to do something like that, all the press that I've gotten has been done by me and a few other people. I've been blessed to come across good people who are a fan of what I'm doing and willing to help.

PM: And good ppl are a vital part of the underground community. The different marketing style.

Jazzy: Yes very vital

PM: How would describe marketing yourself as an independent artist? I first heard about you in the latter part of 2OO7 from a friend, Deaan Pridgeon,who did a youtube cover on your song A.W.O.L.; instantly I was hooked.

Jazzy: Well since the internet is such a BIG part of everything these days, I utilized everything, myspace, facebook, twitter, youtube, all of that. Myspace was thee best outlet its actually what led me to my publishing situation all the people i know musically. Myspace is the best.

PM: Kudos to Tom. Still don't know why I didn't think of it.haha

Jazzy: Yes, now theres tons of outlets. Man how did he come up with that?!

PM: As a female artist in 2009, it honestly requires so much. What are some of the things you are trying to improve on as an artist and a performer?

Jazzy: Well as a female artist in 2009, it seems that singing doesn't have to be at the forefront, you can do everything but sing and make it. So Im trying to make sure that Im giving my audience a show, I love Beyonce, and I love how she brings it every single time you are never disappointed. I want to be just like that I want my fans to be equally impressed with my shows as they are with my music.

PM: With your track 'Remote Control Me,' (which is hittin hard everywhere) how do you handle the talk of how your sound might resemble that of artist such as Rihanna or Keri Hilson?

Jazzy: I found it actually flattering that they would make the comparison, BUT loved the fact that some of my fans went and on some of the youtube pages made comments because they knew it was me before I even addressed it. I loved that, it made me think like wow they recognize my voice woooooow!

PM: Since you released 'Oh Jazzy,' how much have you changed/grown?

Jazzy: Ive changed sooooo much. I've learned what i like, I've established a voice as far as what i like and dislike, I've learned my voice, as far as vocally what I can do. I remember when I first came in I was stuck on doing rnb..because that was what I grew up on, i remember the Lauryn Hill, SWV, En Vogue, Anita Baker and so on and so forth and because of that I was like im not doing anything BUT rnb...now I love electronic music, techno, alternative is my favorite, and I want to mix some of that in with RnB. Im so proud of the growth though its good to see.

PM: You've got me really excited to hear what your going to drop on the market for us. Definitely can hear you over those techno beats.

PM: Even though this track is off your first EP, I must say the 'Body' was a great song.

Jazzy: (chuckles) 'Body' was my very first song...my veeery first song. Its my baby

PM: Where did the idea for 'Remote Control Me' come from?

Jazzy: 'Control Me' was track inspired..its sounded like a conceptual song..the other writer Donnell Shawn actually came up with the concept..and then the words just flowed..Oooh I love that song!

PM: Where do you see your career in 5yrs.

Jazzy: In 5 yrs, I see myself working on a tour for my 3rd album in general, but the 2nd album with whatever label Im with. Married, no children BUT most definitely this husband Ok! lol, I see myself working with all plus more of those artists that I listed above, and all in all blessed, because I would be living my dream, and I would be forever thankful to God.

PM: So can you elaborate on 'The Write Chix'

Jazzy: The Write Chix are me and my writing partner Bobbie Cherie. We've been writing together since '05. She's an amazing talent, dope writer, and vocal producer. She is who gets me sounding the way I do.

PM: Your right hand woman, for lack of better words. Do you write for other artist?

Jazzy: Yes we are awesome for one another. I have written other songs geared for other artist havent placed anything yet.

PM: Are there any important events or projects you have coming up this year?

Jazzy: I have a shows coming up this summer that I will keep everyone posted with, as of now thats it at the moment.

PHRESHMentality: So we have to know right off the back, why aren't you signed? After listening to multiple of your tracks, and how they are all so carefully constructed, there's so much thought put into your music. Why the independence?
KES KAOS:....well as of now im in nyc shoping for a deal and im geting great offers as well as feed back, i also had to get mentally ready to take on the music industry full time its a heavy load and i also wanted to form a body of work i could stand by proudly

PM: When can we expect an EP or an LP from Kes Kaos?
KK: well hopefully this year man in working on new music now

PM: 'She's Alive' is quite an intense song [for lack of better words], is there any particular person you are referring to throughout this song?KK:..... all the lil electric girls in the world hahaha no well every so often you meet a nice young lady and get her home and da freak pop outta no were like BAMMM!!! thats what its about a girl no particular just a girl surprising that ass while knockin boot lol

PM: Where did your name originate?
KK:..... well my last name is kessee which is east indian and i just kinna cut it short and it stuck

PM: You've been singing since you were a child, could you ever put the microphone down, or will you be another Jay-Z; Retirement equals more hits?
KK:..... i always see myself doin music some way some how ill be in a walker on stage throwin back ensures if i could. its about keeping your self relivent i do wanna start a record label one day tho

PM: You mention how you are from an African-American background as well as East Indian, how has this cultural diversity influenced your music?
KK:.....well indian music drifts into minor notes and there scale is madd different from the standart scale and every now and again ill let that take over and do a indian run or melody its alway cool to try new ish now and then

PM: Do you have any secret collaborations that you would like to see happen?
KK: ......david bowie he is the truth soooo out of the box dude

PM: What were you doing in the year 2000?

From the staging, to the costuming, you keep not only the listeners involved, but the viewers at peak enlightenment. Because of your theatrical background at The Freddie Hendricks Youth Ensemble of Atlanta, you are no stranger to performance. Many artist today are solely, paper-pen-recording booth, have you always been so bold and limitless with your performances?
RAHBI: Honestly,Yes. My world consists of no limits, no boundaries and no stop signs. Everything Here Goes & Fantasy Becomes Reality!

PM: "Say yea Rahbi-- yea Rahbi..." We often joke amongst ourselves as we do these reenactments of your songs with our staplers for microphones. How big of a roll do your fans and listeners play in the direction of your music?
R:The fans and listeners play a huge part in the direction of my music. All that I hear, see, smell, taste, & touch assists in my inspiration.

PM: Where were you 5 years ago in your career, in comparison to today?
R: Five years ago I was touring the world as a background singer for Motown Recording artists Donnie. Now, I'm touring the world as a solo artist. There is only forward motion and I have no plans of stopping anytime soon.

PM: With an upcoming performance with Janelle Monae scheduled for this spring, have any talks of collaborations been entertained?
R:The Wondaland Arts Society has indeed made it known that they are interested in working with me.I often call Janelle my Yin. It's like we're from the same magical land. We really understand each other. Therefore, it's only natural for us to collaborate.

PM: What's your favourite song by her?
R: Sincerely Jane

PM: Explain the concept of Strange Fruit and where it came about?
R:Basically I got tired of asking to be on other people's shows and decided to create my own. I wanted a show that highlighted artists people may look at a little "Strange" in the beginning. However, by the end of the night they leave knowing we're the MothaFuckin Shit!
So every show has a Different Theme,Beautiful People, and Lots of RAW Energy!!! (Look out for Strange Fruit V This Summer)

PM: How do you feel about artists who are underground phenoms, and make it mainstream and every ounce of truth turns into commercial sounds?
R: I feel we as consumers have the power to change the face of "Commercial Sounds." If we support quality music then quality music will be on top. That way GREATNESS would be the only option for this underground phenom. With that being said, my music is available on iTunes :-)

PM: Clothes, music and props are three key elements in making a performance come to life. How do you choose the costumes and who comes up with these farfetched themes that are beyond creative?
R:Well, I come from the original artist and a great GOD. So truly all honor goes to him for any and every idea that's planted into my head. Sometimes I get them while driving, other times while sleeping, sometimes in the shower, and even while making love. For that, I'm thankful.

PM: What's the most you would pay to see yourself perform?
R:Everything & More! I'M PRICELESS, As u2 should feel.

PM: You grew up in the hustle and you know what it means to self-promote and make a name for yourself. What advice would you give artist that are attempting to do the same with their lives?
R:Don't stop. The only thing that separates an artist who "Makes It" from another artist that doesn't is the fact that one of them kept at it. Create your own lane on don't wait for anyone to do shit for you.

Underground rappers and even mainstream artists are looking towards one word that can potentially save our ears and gain the respect of listeners past the age of 14...

Artists such as Lupe fiasco, Common, Theophilus London, OutKast, Mickey Factz, Jay-Z, and even Beanie Sigel all use unconventional methods to get their message across. New artist are starting to notice that listeners do not want to hear the same things repetitively. There is indeed a problem when you hear three different songs and have essentially said the same words in every one of them.

Rappers describe themselves as "poets behind a beat". They are faced with not only a recession that doesn't seem to be going away but a dying expansion of “real” music listeners, where have they turned... mix tapes. With that in mind the price of good music is decreasing. Is the yearning for greatness lost forever? The hope of better music may seem lost, but can be found in the hearts and mouths of these poetic lyricists. Whom will not allow the likes of 'That's my P*ssy' and 'Slumber Party' to outshine the motivation and undeniable wit for 'Dear Self' or 'The Coolest.' These Songs scream of the struggle that many have been subjected to in society. They are the true story of what's really going on in the nations systems and everyday life. Not just the B-side of being a Dope boy and the on slew on women that can be at ones possession.

A higher being has already assembled a league of extraordinary Brain power. Carefully crafting each one of them with the strength to engage and expand a listeners mind.
